LPU Counts Down to 60th Foundation Anniversary

In grand fashion, the entire Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Manila community flooded Intramuros with a sea of red, as each one donned the school colors to celebrate the kickoff ceremonies for the LPU 60th Foundation Anniversary.

The celebrations began with a street dance competition inside the LPU Quadrangle participated in by all the colleges after which the various contingents then paraded around Intramuros led by a marching band. This was followed by a float adorned with recyclable materials presented by the College of Engineering, representing the University’s Environment Management System, which the college leads. A float showcasing models of the school’s different uniforms, the reigning Mr. and Ms. LPU and a lookalike of the University’s founder Dr. Jose P. Laurel, completed the entourage that paraded around the walled city.

The culmination of the kickoff celebration was held inside the Baluarte Dilao, fronting The Bayleaf Intramuros. The President delivered his inspirational “birthday” message to the LPU Community, congratulating everyone for the numerous achievements, while emphasizing that 60 years for a University is still a young age.

Activities for the celebration of the 60th Foundation Anniversary will span the whole year, with such events as the Launching of the Commemorative Stamp in January, The Launching of the biography of Sen. Sotero H. Laurel in September and the International Conference on Hospitality Management in October. Annual Foundation Week celebrations will also be held in March, such as the Mr. and Ms. LPU 2012 Coronation Night on March 8, the Pilgrimage to Tanauan, Batangas on March 9 and the Grand Alumni Homecoming Night on March 10.

A festive countdown was performed by each of the colleges, the athletes, the performing arts groups, the pep squad and the members of the Council of Deans, Directors and Department Heads (CODDH). The countdown was concluded with the release of 60 balloons, fireworks and a shower of confetti from the Bayleaf’s skydeck as the throng of red was ablaze with jubilation and excitement over the University’s foundation anniversary on March 9, 2012.
